Luis Stazo

Luis Stazo was born in Buenos Aires. A bandoneon fell into his hands at the age of 7 and, by the age of 11, he was already playing in a youth orchestra.

In 1965, with Orlando Tripodi, he set up his first group, Los 7 del Tango.

After the formation of Sexteto Mayor in 1973, with which he recorded no fewer than 20 albums, he performed with some of the most famous tango artists. These included the unforgettable Roberto Goyeneche with whom, 10 years later, he recorded one of his greatest albums, La Maxima Expresion del Tango.

He has written over 150 songs with Sexteto Mayor alone. His compositions for Julio de Caro’s Los 14 del Tango, which remains a masterpiece, are the most famous and most recognised by musicians worldwide.

Throughout a career spanning 60 years, he has played on every stage across the world. He has received numerous awards, including the Carlos Gardel d’Or and a Latin Grammy in 2004.

Among his most famous compositions, pieces such as No nos veremos mas, Orgullo Tanguero and Del 73 stand out.

Over the last 29 years he has accompanied the Broadway productions Tango Argentino and Tango Pasión around the world.

In January 2005, following the death of José Libertella, he moved to Berlin and set up Stazo Mayor.
